Ceramic coating in Derby. Protect your paint before the salt starts.
5.0 from 70+ Google reviews
Your paint is corrected, then ceramic coated indoors at our Derby unit — so salt, grit and road grime rinse off all winter instead of eating into the clear coat.
- Indoor unit — never coated on a driveway
- 2 to 7-year coatings
- One detailer, start to finish
A Derby winter is harder on paint than it looks
From November to March the A38 and A52 are gritted through every cold spell. None of the damage shows straight away — it shows in spring.
Holds water against the paint
Salty water is far more corrosive than rain. Every existing chip becomes a way in to bare metal.
Sandpaper in every wash
Salt is spread with sharp stone chippings. Wipe it with a sponge or brush wash and it drags straight across the clear coat.
Embeds and rusts in the paint
Brake dust and Derby's rail dust lodge in the clear coat and oxidise — the orange specks you can't wash off.
Where swirls come from
Cold, dark evenings mean quick washes. Most of the swirl marks we remove in spring were put there in winter.
Wax lasts weeks in a UK winter — most cars are unprotected by Christmas without the owner realising.
Correct it. Coat it. Let winter rinse off.
A coating locks in whatever is underneath it — so it goes on after the paint has been properly prepared, never instead of it.
Decontaminate
Snow foam, two-bucket wash, iron fallout remover, tar remover and clay — every trace of summer contamination out before anything touches the paint.
Correct
Machine polished under inspection lighting to remove swirls and haze, with paint depth measured so no more lacquer is taken than is safe.
Coat indoors
Panel wipe, then an installer-grade ceramic coating levelled by hand and left to cure in the unit — dry, stable and dust-free, whatever the weather outside.

BeforeAfter
Stage One — light swirls and haze
Silver bonnet under inspection lighting. Before: light swirls and haze scatter the light. After a single-stage refining polish, the reflections are sharp and the haze is gone.
Drag the slider. This is the step many cheap "winter ceramic" deals skip — and coating over swirls seals them in for years.

Not all "ceramic coating" is the same job
Winter coating deals are everywhere right now. Here's what to ask, and what the answers should be.
| Question | Cheap "ceramic" deal | J.R Detailing |
|---|---|---|
| Where's it applied? | ✕ Often on a driveway, in the cold and damp | ✓ Indoors at the unit, under inspection lighting |
| Paint prep | ✕ Wash and spray on | ✓ Decontamination, clay, machine polish, panel wipe |
| Swirl marks | ✕ Sealed in under the coating | ✓ Corrected first, so they're gone — not locked in |
| Product | ✕ Spray sealant that lasts a couple of months | ✓ Installer-grade 2 to 7-year coatings |
| Curing | ✕ Straight out into the rain | ✓ Initial cure indoors before you collect |
| Who does it | Varies | ✓ Jazz, from quote to handover |
What a coating will do this winter
- Salt, grit and traffic film rinse off instead of bonding to the paint
- The car stays cleaner between washes, and washes take less effort
- Chemical and UV resistance — a layer between the paint and what dulls it
- A sharp, wet-look gloss on freshly corrected paint
…and what it won't
- Stop stone chips — nothing that thin can. That's paint protection film
- Make the car scratch-proof — a brush wash will still mark it
- Remove the need to wash — just makes it quicker and safer
- Fix chips or scratches through the paint — those need bodywork
What coated customers say
Just had a stage one + 3 Year ceramic completed on my BMW M340i, perfect result, most my swirls and scratches gone, and now it's glossy and protected. Thanks Jazz for the work!
Just had a stage two paint correction completed by J.R Detailing along with a 7-year PPL Reign ceramic coating applied to my Toyota. The results are honestly unreal — the paint looks better than when I first got the car.
Took my black BMW 4 Series to JR Detailing for a stage 2 paint correction and 3-year ceramic coating and I'm really impressed with the results. The car was covered in swirl marks and light scratches before, now it looks flawless.
Just collected my car from JR DETAILING. Could not be happier with the work he has done. I've had a stage 1 machine polish and 2 year ceramic coating. It has really brought my car back to life and brought back the happiness when driving it.
Absolutely over the moon with the results from J.R Detailing. Me and my family just had our Audi A3 done with a stage one paint correction and 2 year ceramic coating and the transformation is unreal. The gloss, the finish, everything is spot on.
Buzzing with the results from JR Detailing. Found Jaz on Instagram and booked in for the Stage One, Body Ceramic, and Wheel Coating package. Jaz really knows his stuff — kept me in the loop the whole time and made the process easy.
Can you coat a car in winter?
Is it too cold to ceramic coat a car?
Not indoors. Coatings are affected by temperature and humidity while they cure, which is why a driveway in December is a bad idea. Every car is coated inside the unit, where it's dry and stable, and stays inside for the initial cure.
How long will you need the car?
It depends on the level. Gloss Enhancement is typically a day's work; Stage Two is several days. We'll confirm the timing when we've seen the paint.
What do I need to do after collection?
Coatings keep hardening for about a week. Keep the car dry where you can and don't wash it for the first seven days. After that: pH-neutral shampoo, two buckets, clean mitt, no brush washes. You'll get aftercare guidance at handover.
Should I wash the car before bringing it in?
No. Decontamination is the first stage of every job — bring it as it is, winter grime and all.
Which coating should I choose?
For a daily driver kept a few years, the 2 or 3-year coatings are good value. For a car you're keeping long term or one that lives outside, the 4–5 or 7-year options are harder-wearing and worth the difference.
Where are you, and how do I book?
